Resolutions for TB2
With exams over and a humanities’ reading week this week, I am currently at a stage where I can reflect on the past term and think about what I would like to achieve this upcoming term.
With my Spanish module being examined in the summer, my only exam was for my History module on the British Empire. I found it difficult to know where to start when it came to revision as the first term of university was very different to school in that we followed no syllabus and although lectures and seminars of course follow a pattern, it is down to us to structure our notes as we see fit.
Looking back through my notes from the term, I realised how scattered they were so I found it useful to start off by organising my notes and collating them into the various topics we had studied. I then selected a few topics from this list which I focussed on, for which my revision consisted of reading further related articles, adding to my initial notes and then consolidating this knowledge by writing these notes out again or attempting essay plans using past papers.
It is of course hard to know how an exam has gone and I am looking forward to receiving my marks in order to review the effectiveness of my revision technique, but at least I felt relatively prepared walking into my exam.
In terms of the upcoming term, I am very keen to discover Bristol further as a city, having realised that I spent much of the first term either at Stoke Bishop, around the university precinct, or on the number 16 bus. Now that I feel more adjusted in terms of managing independent work alongside our given contact hours, I am looking forward to being able to explore the city more and take up more outside opportunities, such as volunteering and potentially the Bristol Plus Award.
