The first six weeks

Having been at Bristol almost six weeks now and with reading week this week marking the halfway point through the term, it seems an appropriate moment to reflect on how the start of university life has been going. It feels slightly surreal that six weeks have already gone by, yet thinking back to Freshers week seems like a very long time ago.

In terms of life at Bristol, I feel very settled in, with flatmates and the familiarity of my room now making it feel very much like home. There is of course still the sense that there is still huge amounts to discover, yet having developed a routine definitely brings a sense of normality into life at Bristol.

Due to the regularity of the weekly timetable, it is easy to get used to, which makes it easier to organise other activities and work around the lectures. Lectures themselves have been interesting so far as, together with seminars, they form the basis of university-style learning, which I have found to be different from school in that it is much more independent, requiring you to motivate yourself to complete the set reading or relevant work. In general, I am looking forward to continuing through this term to see how everything develops!
